SHIFT AND SCALE INVARIANT DETECTIONEugene

چکیده
Diierent signal realizations generated from a given source may not appear the same. Time shifts, frequency shifts, and scales are among the signal variations commonly encountered. Time-frequency distributions (TFDs) covariant to time and frequency shifts and scale changes reeect these variations in a predictable manner. Based on such TFDs, representations invariant to these signal distortions are possible. Presented here are two approaches for discriminating between signal classes where within class translation and scale variation occur. The rst method uses an auto-correlation followed by a scale transform to achieve the invari-ances. The second method treats the TFD as a two-dimensional probability density function and applies a transformation that removes the mean and variance to provide the shift and scale invariance. Each method employs discrimination mechanisms to yield powerful results.

Translation Invariant Approach for Measuring Similarity of Signals
In many signal processing applications, an appropriate measure to compare two signals plays a fundamental role in both implementing the algorithm and evaluating its performance. Several techniques have been introduced in literature as similarity measures. However, the existing measures are often either impractical for some applications or they have unsatisfactory results in some other applicati...

متن کاملBilinear time-frequency representations of signals: the shift-scale invariant class
Abstruct-We consider the class of bilinear time-frequency representations (BTFR's) that are invariant (or covariant) to time shifts, frequency shifts, and time-frequency scalings. This " shift-scale invariant " class is the intersection of the classical shift-invariant (Cohen) class and the recently defined affine class. The mathematical description of shift-scale invariant BTFR's is in terms o...
متن کاملLog-Polar Wavelet Energy Signatures for Rotation and Scale Invariant Texture Classification
Classification of texture images, especially those with different orientation and scale changes, is a challenging and important problem in image analysis and classification. This paper proposes an effective scheme for rotation and scale invariant texture classification using log-polar wavelet signatures. The rotation and scale invariant feature extraction for a given image involves applying a l...
